July 20, 1969. “Contact light, engine stop.” The Apollo 11 lunar module Eagle touched down at Tranquility Base on the Moon.
A few hours later, Neil Armstrong and I stepped foot on the Moon, with Michael Collins orbiting close-by.

Those three flew that rocket to the Moon, and with Mike orbiting, Neil and Buzz walked on the surface 56 years ago today. One of the greatest achievements in all of history, it still inspires the world.

Mike Collins is the ultimate team player - stayed up in the lunar module while the other two became the first humans to walk on the moon.

This was the first photo taken by Neil Armstrong after he descended the LM ladder to become the first man to walk on the moon.
It shows the south footpad of LM Eagle with a Jettison bag discarded by the crew
