Heads up: The next issue will be eclipse-focused. So much awesome science and engineering in that one celestial event.
This is super impressive engineering. The “earthquake dampener” in the Taipei 101 skyscraper was critical in avoiding any damage to the building
A 7.5 earthquake hit Taiwan yesterday and footage shows the Taipei 101 skyscraper shaking.
The 1,670ft building famously has a 703 ton steel ball hanging between the 88th and 92nd floors, which acts as a “dampener system” to reduce building sway by 30-40% during earthquakes… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

This is a fantastic opportunity for young researchers and scientists to swing for projects to combat climate change. If you know someone who might be interested, send them to https://776.org/
I've got $2M to give in $100K grants to 20 ambitious young people taking a BIG swing to combat climate change. It's time to build. Though it shares a name with my VC fund (and 1% of our carry goes toward it, too) this is my foundation + just the start. Apply now 👇

A few weeks ago some batteries thrown overboard from the International Space Station crashed into someone’s house in Florida. Great reporting here by @StephenClark1.

I love these cross-curricular connections 🙂
I love seeing findings that show similarity across cultures. Plus it uses networking terms (39 bits per second) that I understand 🙂
One of my favorite scientific findings:
Some languages are very information dense and some less so. Some languages are spoken fast and some slow.
And it turns out that people around the world speak at about the same information rate (~39 bps) regardless.
