Welcome to issue #28
I scroll so you don’t have to.
A question for y’all:
What mnemonic did you learn for the colors of a rainbow? (FWIW, I learned it as VIBGYOR - but with a soft G, as if the color is JREEN 🙄 )

I hope they are never able to fix all of these. I love them so much

Exhibit #456798 in how unchecked “AI” is basically monkeys on a keyboard.
Sure, it will get better (it better!) but for the foreseeable future, we need to be really careful about what we read online.

The Paris 24 Olympic medals are perhaps the most French objects imaginable, including an actual hexagonal chunk of the Eiffel Tower in each:
- presented on Louis Vuitton trays
- designed by 240 year old Maison Chaumet, whose jewellery is all inspired by Empress Josephine… x.com/i/web/status/1…— dan barker (@danbarker)

I love all the thought and cultural connections for these medals.
I bet they smell like baguettes too!

62 years ago #Today, a U.S. patent was issued to Swedish engineer Nils Bohlin for the three-point seat-belt.

This is really good example of “#Tech4Good” - especially because Volvo (his employer) licensed the design to all automakers for free.
So many lives saved by this one invention and the follow-up charitable act of not charging for the development.
Bonus: You can see the original patent at https://patents.google.com/patent/US3043625A/en and Volvo’s webpage on it at https://www.volvogroup.com/en/about-us/heritage/three-point-safety-belt.html

It’s satellites all the way up! 🛰️
We better be careful with decommissioning ones not in use else we will end up with a landfill in space 😐️

The Whataburger app works as a power outage tracker, handy since the electric company doesn't show a map.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl hitting the Houston area, many people lost power but others had no way to know what was going on.
Till they checked out the Whataburger app!
This is cool (a totally non-expected and unplanned use of a fast food app) and also frustrating (that the utility doesn’t have a way to share this important information)
Kudos to the product team at Whataburger for stepping up! What an app!

Here’s a tip: Use *s in your passwords. The hackers will think they still haven’t cracked it. 😆
